What is it about?
Phenylacetyi isocyanate was used as a good building block for the synthesis of condensed and non-condensed target heterocycles like 1,2,4-triazoline-5-thionebenzo[d][1,3,6]oxazin-1-one, benzothiazole derivative , benzoxazole derivative, and benzimidazole.

Why is it important?
Phenylacetylisothicynate is a bifunctional precursor capable of participating in a wide range of addition- cyclizations reactions. The strong electron attracting power of their aroyl group enhances the reactivity of the adjacent isothiocyanate-function and promotes nucleophilic addition at this center. Simultaneous or subsequent cyclization of the adducts gives access to a variety of 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic structures, including bicyclic condensed ring-systems.
