What is it about?
A mild procedure for the synthesis of ethylene acetals and dimethyl acetals from the corresponding aldehydes and ketones catalyzed by 1 mol% of the aniline-aldehyde resin salts are described. This method is also useful for the synthesis of dimethyl acetals of diaryl ketones.

Why is it important?
We devised the mild and efficient procedure for the acetalization of aldehydes and ketones. Highly catalytic nature and wide applicability of the aniline resin salts will be attractive points. It is worth pointing out that (1) the work-up procedure is remarkably simple, (2) synthesis of the catalysts is quite easy, and (3) the catalysts are non-hygroscopic and easy to handle.
