What is it about?

A simple but efficient interlocking connection for steel modular buildings has been designed and tested. This connection enables easy installation and dismantling for repair and reuse operations, all damage free. In addition, the connection is not expensive and does not require special tooling. The connection was tested in various loading scenarios to prove its structural performance.

Why is it important?

Re-using is important in steel structures, as recycling is very energy intensive. Modular construction can become a great paradigm with lots of case studies to realise re-use operations.

Perspectives

Although many interlocking connections have been recently proposed in the literature, this is designed in close collaboration with the industry. It is simple, robust, allows for controlled movements without rocking and damages.
