Why is it important?
United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU) Commission and Parliament, a range of NGOs and academia aknowledge that an overall implementation of the circular economy principles is needed to reach the goals of the Paris agreement and many of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG´s). Technological quick fixes like Power-to-X and carbon storage will only accomplish approximatly 50% and the remaining 50% of complying with the 1.5 degree Celsius target can only be accomplished through implementation of circular economy principles at product/business level (micro), industrial level (meso) and societal level (macro).
