What is it about?

Alpha-fluoroalcohols and perfluoroalcohols are important building blocks of pharmaceuticals as well as technical chemicals. Alcohols possessing alpha-fluorine atoms are inherently unstable and decompose. Only a limited number of α-fluoroalcohols have been observed, and even fewer have been isolated. We present the preparation, isolation and the first crystal structure of an alpha-fluoroalcohol.
