What is it about?
Sugar polymers are important materials for making polymeric fibres. However their synthesis is hampered by low yield, poor degree of polymerization, requirement of excess reagents, catalysts and toxic solvents. We have circumvented this problem by polymerizing a sugar derived monomer in the crystal state. Our method gives polymer in 100% yield and purity with out using any solvent, catalyst or any other activators. Also the structural studies could be carried out by X-ray crystallography.
