What is it about?
We demonstrate an intelligent fiber-integrated near-infrared (NIR) light field sensor based on upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) and tapered multimode fiber. The spectra-polarization-dependent upconverted speckled patterns captured by a cost-effective visible image sensor can be accurately decoded via a deep neural network.

Why is it important?
By leveraging the upconversion nanoparticles, we show that the short-wave-infrared (SWI) light with high-dimension properties can be efficiently detected and processed using a cost-effective CMOS image sensor and deep learning.
