What is it about?
This manuscript describes the first example of mixed chalcogen-doped molecular metal-oxide compounds, namely: K6Na2[(CH3)4N][I3(MoV2O2S2)8(SeIVO3)8(OH)8]•25H2O 1 and K13Na3[(MoV2O2S2)12(SeO3)6(OH)26(MoV2O2S2)6 (O)5(OH)3(CH3CO2)]•50H2O 2. These compounds represent the largest examples of selenite-based ChalcoPOM species.

Why is it important?
The utilization of the selenite anions as ligands, which exhibit non-conventional pyramidal geometry, to create novel libraries of building blocks for the controlled construction of mixed chalcogen metal-oxide nano-sized species, demonstrates a unique synthetic strategy which gives rise to a new family of materials (ChalcoPOMs). The utilization of new building-block libraries shows a new promising research direction for future discoveries
