What is it about?
The term worldview – which is a loan translation from the German 'Weltanschauung' or 'Weltsicht' – refers to an elaborate cognitive framework or belief/orientation system that provides societies and individuals with a means of understanding their environment and ordering their lives in accordance with various key assumptions that are widely shared by the members of their ingroups. The article explores in how far contemporary psychology would do well to examine more intensively the role of different worldviews in structuring and orienting our perceptions, interpretations and attitudes.
