What is it about?
This study provide a comprehensive review of fern morphology in the context of our current understanding of fern phylogeny and the history of plant morphology. The review aims to provide a comprehensive overview with focus on documenting the disparity of fern morphology without the bias of questionable homology assessments. In particular, the study aims to create a transition between traditional morphological assessment, such as Troll's Idealistic morphology, towards more dynamic concepts including those taking evolution into the centre to understand the assembly of fern morphology.
