What is it about?

The sexta-diurnal tides have been enhanced by tidal resonance, which change the water level rising and falling. This is caused by the specific morphology of the Daya Bay in China, which just meets the requirement of wave resonance.

Why is it important?

It changes the circulation in the bay and the flushing time of waste water discharged into the bay.

Perspectives

This article is based on observation and numerical modelling. The phenomenon described is rarely reported in the world. The effect of high-frequency tidal resonance on water exchange and sediment transport are waiting to be unveiled.
