What is it about?
We focus on the impact of atmospheric acid deposition to coastal acidification in relation to its biogeochemical context. Ocean acidification is a hot topic, especially in coastal areas, where most of the economically important marine organisms live. We found that initial conditions modify the additional acidification due to atmospheric acid deposition, with CO2-supersaturated systems being most sensitive.

Why is it important?
Atmospheric acid deposition contributes significantly to coastal acidification, especially downwind of developed areas. This is useful for any community working on ocean acidification in coastal areas, ranging from biologists to physical oceanographers.
