What is it about?

We provided and verified an improved calculate method of active earth pressure on rigid retaining wall under different movement modes considering soil arching effects. The most notable soil arching effect is simplified and suggested for the engineering practice.

Why is it important?

Most of the existing researches can only provide calculation methods considering the soil arch curve of a single shape or a single wall movement mode. The method in this paper can comprehensively consider a variety of complex situations of retaining walls under different working conditions. And we obtained the most unfavorable conditions of the active earth pressure which can be selected for the safety of engineering applications.
