What is it about?
How we are affected by our emotions, and how we control them, has an important impact on our mental health. People can present different profiles of awareness about their emotions and use adaptive or maladaptive emotion regulation strategies. To better understand these relationships, this study sought to identify different profiles of emotion regulation.

Why is it important?
Our findings identified three basic emotional regulation profiles: a) adapted, b) dysregulated; and c) unaware regulator. These different profiles of emotion regulation are related to different ways in which individuals are influenced or control their emotions and the presence of positive and negative affects. These results may have implications for mental health processes.
