What is it about?

Diabetic people often suffer from various complications which make their life difficult. One of the main factors contributing to these difficulties is forming Advanced glycation end products (AGEs). In this article, we have discussed the formation of these AGES, how they are implicated in various diabetic complications and how we can target these with the modulation of the autophagy pathway.

Why is it important?

This article reviews recent publications about AGEs, autophagy and the relationship between the two,. This is the first review article linking the two, up to my knowledge.

Perspectives

The article fairly explains the pathways related to the formation of AGEs, signalling associated with the diseases. It also explains the autophagy pathway, relates it to different diseases and also implicates it as a target against AGEs and diabetic complications
