What is it about?
Geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate (GGPP) is the non sterol metabolite of mevalonate pathway. We have shown that GGPP can enhances the Treg differentiation in vitro as well as in vivo via IL2/STAT5 signaling.

Why is it important?
Regulatory T (Treg) cells are well known for preventing T cell-mediated inflammation and autoimmune diseases. In mice model of DSS induced colitis, we showed that higher doses of simvastatin leads to the increased disease severity. Similarly, GGPP treatment prevents the DSS-induced colitis by enhancing the immune suppressive Treg population.
