What is it about?
Multicomponent reactions are considered as key resources for medicinal chemists thanks to a collection of green features such as high atom economy, convergence, wide chemical space in short times and with saving of time and resources, complexity and diversity generation with ease, and fast hit-to-lead transition. The present literature review highlights advantages, potentialities, and challenges of applying photoredox catalytic conditions to develop new multicomponent synthetic approaches and provide advanced tools to access drug-like scaffolds.

Why is it important?
Resistance to cancer therapies and to antibiotics, along with the the threat of new viral infections as experienced for Covid19, set the urgent need for the availability of direct and efficient synthetic approaches to new chemical entities, which would be able to support a fast development of future drugs and face the current challenges in medical chemistry research and discovery programs.
