Adopting circular economy principles in the agri-food sector is necessary for the conversion of the current economic system. This study analyses how CE principles and factors contribute to value optimisation within the supply chain. It highlights how Value Optimisation is reflected in economic, environmental and social issues

Why is it important?

In the face of low investments and a low level of technology, it is possible to bring companies closer to the CE approach by focusing on specific priorities. The study highlighted three critical guidelines or dimensions within which optimisation of value takes place: short supply chain (SSC), waste supply chain management (WSCM) and integrated PSS (I-PPS).

Perspectives

It was a pleasure to share the writing of this article with the authors, with whom I have had long-standing collaborations. This article also opens up future research opportunities on this topic, which needs to be further investigated
