Public Theology

Ted Peters

What is it about?

This PUBLIC THEOLOGY Project draws sage insight from the wisdom reservoir of philosophical and religious thought to clarify public discourse and help construct a meaningful worldview. Today's digitized cacophony of competing worldviews can be overwhelming. The public theologian attempts to distinguish truthfulness from its detractors and to draw a comprehensive picture of reality in which everything is rightly related to the God of grace.

Why is it important?

Public Theology is important because of the urgent need to clarify and rectify widespread misunderstandings regarding the alleged warfare between science and religion; refusal to listen to the scientific prophets who warn us about climate change and the coming ecological crisis; disbelief of scientific experts even in the face of the coronavirus plague; slowness to embrace the hard task of advancing economic justice and racial harmony; fear of Artificial Intelligence and robotics; and anxiety over contact with ETI.

Perspectives

I believe that a healthy public theology is conceived within the church, tested and revised in the academy, and offered to the wider culture for the sake of the wider culture.
