What is it about?
This study attempts to compare the findings on assessment of oral language and emergent literacy skills in children with autism, conducted through tele-mode and traditional direct mode. Two of the standardized tools for oral language and emergent literacy assessments were administered on 10 children with autism directly and through tele mode (through the help of caregivers) with a gap of 15 days. We found comparable results in terms of scores on agreement of experts for the two assessments, thus indicating that assessments done through tele mode could be a reliable method of assessment in children with autism.

Research on reliability of tele assessment is the current need in tele practice era. Such studies help to establish the scientific rigor of the recent norm on tele practice in the field of health research.
Perspectives
The idea for this paper originated from the need to switch to tele practice from direct assessment for an ongoing research on children with autism during pandemic. The authors then decided to check the comparability or reliability of tele practice method and direct method of assessment for oral language and emergent literacy skills in children with autism using appropriate research design.
