Monitoring bone health in boys with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

What is it about?

This audit looked at checking whether we adhere to the standards of care for boys with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Specifically looking at whether boys are on vitamin D supplements , having their vitamin D level checked, having annual back x-rays to look for fractures and examination of puberty. This looked at care in two centres. It then goes on to suggest ways to improve adherence to the standards of care.

Why is it important?

The piece of work looked at trying to find out how well we adhere to the standards of care available for boys with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This is important to try prevent complications such as osteoporosis, bone fractures and impaired growth.
