What is it about?

Epilepsy is one of the most prevalent and ancient neurological disorders, but, still difficult to identify the specific type of seizure, due to artefacts, noise, and other disturbances, because of the acquisition of Scalp EEG. It necessitates the use of skilled medical professionals as incorrect diagnosis leads to wrong anti-seizure Drugs (ASDs) and their side effects. In this article seven types of seizure identification using machine learning is discussed in details.

Why is it important?

In Neuro OPD, most of the patients meet the clinician in the interictal stage (i.e. with a history of seizure) and many a time the symptoms during onset are also not properly known. In this case, it's difficult to diagnose the seizure in its type. To aid diagnosis, seizure type detection in all the stages using machine learning techniques plays a vital role.

Perspectives

Writing this article was a great pleasure as it has co-authors with whom I have had long-standing collaborations. This article also led to aid diagnosis of the most common and ancient yet challenging diagnostic neuro disorder.
