What is it about?

Earth's past has witnessed glacial and interglacial ages when the Polar ice caps have expanded and shrunk respectively. Microfossils like planktic foraminifera are good proxies to trace the migration of polar fronts in response to glacial and interglacial ages.

Why is it important?

During the migration of the Polar Fronts towards low latitudes the cold ocean's area increases causing the increase in carbon dioxide sink which is important for further controlling the global climate.

Perspectives

It was exciting to work on tracing the migration of polar fronts at a high-resolution time scale can add another dimension to climate forcing and feedbacks. Such studies are not frequent. Also, this is important in the climate feedback mechanism.
