What is it about?

Isokinetic testing familiarization in men with SCI is currently performed with different methodologies. However, there is a lack of information and consensus regarding the optimal familiarization protocol for men with SCI. The present study standardized a protocol based on perceived exertion to familiarization process in individuals with SCI.

Why is it important?

Familiarization is not only important to understand learning effects and adaptations to muscle testing procedures, but also to exclude the possibility of an underestimation of muscle performance or overestimation of strength gains.

Perspectives

Future studies with different isokinetic velocities, strength test movements, and perceived exertion are important to be performed in order to improve the familiarization process.
