What is it about?
Broader adoption of autonomous vehicles technology depends on the ability to demonstrate their operational safety. In this paper, we address some aspects of this challenge of safety by design, with emphasis on issues of motion planning and prediction. We do this through description of novel approaches within Five's autonomous driving stack regarding planning, interpretable prediction and understanding perception errors, and introducing the design philosophy being adopted.
