A Legal Right to Clozapine Therapy for Incarcerated Individuals With Treatment-Resistant Schizophrenia

What is it about?

Patients with treatment-resistant schizophrenia (TRS) who are incarcerated have a constitutional right to medical care. However, the only medication approved for TRS, clozapine, is often not offered or available in jails and prisons. This article argues that withholding clozapine for incarcerated individuals with TRS may be a violation of their statutory and constitutional rights.
