What is it about?

Irritability is a significant clinical issue in youth. This study examined clinical changes and the brain level changes by intranasal oxytocin (natural hormone) in youth with severe level of irritability. Youth who received intranasal oxytocin showed decrease in clinical severity of their disruptive behavior symptoms. Functional MRI showed that intranasal oxytocin induced brain level changes in the areas of emotion processing. This might indicate that the future studies of intranasal oxytocin as a treatment option for youth with severe irritability will be necessary.
