What is it about?

This paper provides an overview to opioid misuse and features of it. It includes things like how use has increased over the years, some information on the neurobiology of opioid misuse, and its treatment. The hope is that this will help people to better understand the disorder and the current status of what we know about it.

Why is it important?

There are lots of deaths from opioid overdoses. We need to better understand opioid misuse and how we can decrease the misuse, and treat those who do misuse these drugs.

Perspectives

I think this is so critically important because overdose deaths are still staggeringly high -- even though we have done things to try to improve access to care and treatments.
