What is it about?
Comparing the difference in skin, muscle, and core temperature changes between the popular cryotherapy modality, cold water immersion (CWI), and a novel cryotherapy modality, phase change material (PCM).

Why is it important?
The cooling effect of CWI can only safely be applied/utilized by athletes for short periods of time (on average 15 minutes). It is possible that the inability of prolonging the treatment duration is preventing athletes from experiencing beneficial recovery effects. PCM can safely be applied for prolonged duration.
Perspectives
PCM cooling packs offers an alternative for delivering prolonged cooling whenever application of CWI is impractical.
