What is it about?

In Spain since 2015, as a result of the arrival of new leftist forces to local governments, a new philosophy of the city model and the urban policies that should be priorities have been implemented. This article examines the initiatives that are being carried out in Madrid and Barcelona, the problems that exist when carrying them out and the challenges of the future

Why is it important?

The article offers an analysis of the problem from different points of view: that of the politicians and technicians of the local administration, anti-eviction forms and neighborhood associations.

Perspectives

Thanks to this article we have been able to verify the changes of logic in the way of understanding the city, the scale of the initiatives and the difficulties that there are to implement actions that although they are very interesting have serious problems at the time of execution either by the own urban planning legislation and the lack of cohesion in the political parties, either due to the reduced municipal budgets or the lack of qualified personnel.
