Why is it important?

The article reveals the contradiction/discrepancies in the meaning of participatory communication as understood by the community members and the workers of the various NGOs.

Perspectives

This study helps to explain the disconnection between the policies of nonprofit agencies and the values of the local people assist. The problem emanates from the lack of effective communication between the nonprofit agencies and the local community members. The situation is made worse because most of the nonprofit agencies do not involve the local people in deciding what they really need. Much of the decision-making process is made by the donors/NGOs without much input from the local communities. As such, projects do not make the maximum impact as intended, and leads to a waste of resources.
