You will be joining Kudos at an exciting time - we are midway through the launch of a groundbreaking new service that is designed to help researchers take a more professional, evidence-based approach to maximizing the visibility of their work. You will be working at the cutting edge of research communications, educating the market and riding a rapidly building wave of increased funding and expectations around communications on the part of the organizations that fund research. You will be creating a market - accelerating our growth, and driving the conversion of a strong level of interest in and demand for the services we have developed.

Marketing is a revenue-generating function at Kudos, and you and your team will be responsible for lead generation (for paid services including Kudos Pro and Kudos for Publishers), user acquisition (for our free service), and user engagement / retention (across all services). You will work closely with the Chief Customer Officer to define the marketing strategy, and lead / manage the team's delivery of that strategy. You will be responsible for marketing planning, execution, performance and reporting. You will get to roll your sleeves up and keep your skills sharp at the operational level, as well as applying and growing your strategic expertise.

The role is full time, based in our offices in Wheatley, Oxfordshire. Evening / weekend work and travel may occasionally be required. You will report to our Chief Customer Officer, and have two direct reports.

About you

You will be a senior marketer with strong, up-to-date experience of digital marketing strategy, systems, channels and practices (SEO / SEM, CRM, CRO etc). You will have proven expertise in marketing automation - from building a pipeline / sales funnel to maximizing user visits / engagement (setting up campaigns, workflows and content that enable efficient and effective scaling). You will be analytical, with in-depth knowledge of Excel (pivots, vlookups, etc) and experience in building models, tracking progress and identifying levers to improve performance. You will have be results-oriented, able to define, track and report on key performance indicators. You will have a sharp eye for detail, and experience in managing and developing team members. You will be passionate about marketing, with a positive attitude and an ambitious, entrepreneurial mindset.

Key responsibilities

  • Create and implement digital marketing strategies and campaigns to maximize user acquisition / retention and lead generation
    • Working with CEO, CCO and Sales Director to model and set growth targets across the funnel
    • Use strategic tools such as personas, journey analysis and competitor analysis to shape strategic focus and plans
    • Define content and workflows to maximize attention, interest, desire, action, retention
    • Create and maintain (and / or guide the development and delivery of) content and materials to support the lead generation and conversion / user acquisition and retention

    • Devise an advocacy / incentive programme to encourage and reward word-of-mouth recommendations
  • Analyse marketing performance, applying a "continuous improvement" approach to ensure acquisition / engagement / lead gen targets are met
    • Ensure tracking is set up across all processes and systems, and design / introduce reports and processes to flag and address any issues
    • Generate and deliver regular performance / progress reports to CCO and management team
    • Liaise closely with sales team to evaluate and improve lead quality
    • Recommend and implement new approaches / tools / channels / processes / partnerships
  • Lead, manage and motivate our marketing team, whose roles include both supporting delivery of the digital marketing strategy, but also more generalist marketing activities including events and materials
  • Maintain and grow knowledge of digital marketing best practices, providing thought leadership in relation to lead


  • 5+ years in a digital marketing role
  • Proven experience in contemporary digital marketing
  • Demonstrable expertise with CRM / analytics systems and Excel
  • Strong working knowledge of GDPR
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills
  • Excellent, straightforward verbal and written communication skills
