About you

You will have proven experience of developing new business in an inside-sales environment. Experience in the Higher Education market is useful, but we're interested to hear from any talented sales professionals with B2B sales experience. You will be organized, driven, productive and can-do. You will be a people person, focused on developing strong and honest relationships, a confident yet empathetic communicator. You will be self-motivated and results-oriented. You will have significant experience in new business prospecting and be familiar with tools such as Salesforce, Hubspot and GoToMeeting. You'll be genuinely interested in keeping pace with new developments in scholarly communication and research assessment, and enthusiastic about connecting with researchers and the research management community.

Job purpose

  • Building a robust network of relationships with budget holders in the research community: principal investigators, researchers, administrators, impact officers, communications managers.
  • Understanding the dissemination goals and needs of this community, and guiding development of Kudos' product proposition and messaging to align with those needs.
  • Progressing sales through pipeline stages to close business and exceed sales targets.
  • Connecting with prospective customers via telephone, email, online meetings.
  • Demonstrating our products and services to potential customers; discussing them and their value in the context of customers' needs.
  • Progressing sales through pipeline stages to close business and exceed sales targets.
  • Developing clear and effective written proposals / quotations for prospective customers.
  • Maintaining excellent demo/call notes in CRM, regularly updating contact and opportunity data.
  • Analyzing market potential and determining prospective customers' value to Kudos.
  • Researching sources for identifying and prioritizing prospective customers.
  • Coordinating sales efforts and intelligence with colleagues in related business functions including marketing, product management, client management and accounting.
  • Keeping abreast of product applications, technical services, market conditions, competitive activities, advertising and promotional trends through the reading of pertinent literature and consulting with marketing and technical service areas.
  • Supplying colleagues with customer feedback on existing and potential products.
  • Participating in industry shows and conventions.

The role may involve occasional travel, estimated at 20% of your time.


  • 5+ years' business development experience, in technology, media, telecommunications or other services industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, present and influence credibly and effectively at all levels of an organization.
  • Ability to determine solutions with customers (consultative sales approach).
  • Enthusiasm for and understanding of new media, metrics and technologies (particularly those that relate to Kudos and the scholarly communications market).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Full UK driving license.
