Why is it important?

This is a joint venture of student teacher that provides both perspectives of the classroom experience. It also provides some advice from students and strategies from the teacher about how to minimize the painful effects of learning about race and racism.

Perspectives

This article came about because I wanted to make sense of the events happening around the country and on campus regarding race relations. It was a particularly challenging time and I felt that I had a great deal to learn as a professor. I asked some former students about their experience in the classroom and decided that an article providing both perspectives may be useful to colleagues. It was a joy to work with the students on putting this together.
